Update December 2014: Apparently Quest Nutrition liked my s’mores recipe so much that they decided to make it an official flavor! Now you can try my Quest s’mores recipe versus the official s’mores bar. Let me know what you think…
Quest Bars are my new addiction. Quest Bars are amazingly delicious protein bars which pack 20 grams of protein into each bar. Most varieties come in right around 200 calories which is a bargain for a bar with so much protein.
There are tons of fantastic flavors (chocolate brownie, cinnamon roll, white chocolate raspberry, cookie dough — need I say more?) and they are gluten-free. Best of all, they contain no soy protein and NO SUGAR ALCOHOLS. Yes, I am shouting. With happiness. Many of the protein or “health” bars on the market contain sugar alcohols (like maltitol) which can wreak havoc on your digestive system. Trust me on this.
While munching on an Apple Pie Quest Bar the other day, I found an interesting recipe online — it was a “pop-tart” using a Quest Bar as the base. That got me thinking — how could I use a Quest Bar in a unique and different way?
Well, Saturday, August 10 was National S’mores Day. What better day to inspire a creative new Quest Bar recipe. I think you’ll enjoy the result. I certainly did!
Quest Bar S’Mores
Ingredients:
1 Quest Bar (any flavor - I used chocolate chip cookie dough)
2 marshmallows
1 square 85% dark chocolate
Directions:
Unwrap your Quest Bar, put it on a plate and microwave for 10-15 seconds. While still warm, place it between two layers of waxed paper and roll out into a thin rectangle. Cut with a knife into two squares.
Next, place the two marshmallows on a plate and stick the chocolate square on top. Microwave for approximately 15 seconds until the marshmallows get puffy and the chocolate just begins to melt. Then carefully remove the marshmallows and chocolate from the plate, place on top of one Quest Bar square, and top with the other square. Done!
The nutritional facts, according to MyFitnessPal are as follows:
- 298 calories
- 12.5 grams fat
- 37 grams carbs
- 22 grams protein
